However, the bacteria can even cause intestinal infections as some of the strains are toxigenic. E. Coli O1.57:H7 releases toxins that are responsible for food poisoning and could lead to kidney failure.

Researchers suggest that each strain on Escherichia Coli differs; its ability to survive in different animals and birds helps in determining its source. Its versatility and history has provided the microbiologists a lot of information. E. Coli is widely used in research and experiments because it gives better and quick results. The bacteria survives in high temperature but it could be killed at high temperatures too. Also, it can replicate itself in 20 minutes with oxygen or without it. Researchers use these bacteria to determine if the water is pure in a simple laboratory procedure while on bigger scales, it is used to produce vaccines, injections, insulin and antibiotics. These are just some of the few things that microbiologists have found out about E. Coli but there is a lot more. Just like this bacteria, we have so many other microorganisms around us that can help in making our lives better.
